In daily improvement activities, you are not guaranteed to obtain all the data needed to solve a problem. You can use an analytical approach to address common issues-insufficient quality and equipment failures that occur daily, for instance-because you can obtain data in numerical forms, such as the number of occurrences. Some issues do not allow this approach-cost reduction, activation of ideas for improvement of the team, and improvement of skills, for instance, where the obtainable data exists only inside the heads of the participants and is often expressed in words. it would be helpful if such language data could be summarized in some way so that reasonable judgments could be made. The new seven tools of QC are used for this types of problem-solving approach. An autonomous maintenance (Jishu-hozen) officer should learn the outline of five of them for use in the problem solving in the workplace-affinity diagram, relation diagram, three diagram, matrix diagram, and arrow diagram(PERT).
